The title of the song "The Work of Art in the Age of Cultural Overproduction" is a reference to Walter Benjamin's essay, "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction". The track "Ghost Writing Pt. 1" samples the American television show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?.

Critical reception

Mark Richard-San of Pitchfork described the album as "a journey into abstract drones and cinematic atmosphere." In 2016, Lindsey Rhoades of Stereogum wrote, "Feeling bound by the trappings of techno, Hecker was already on a different wavelength with Haunt Me, clearly seeking something that would trigger ASMR-induced enlightenment, and he ran with it." In 2018, Evan Lilly of The Line of Best Fit stated, "Within its twenty songs, Haunt Mes entirety lasts less than an hour, but in that time, Hecker manages to transform ambient noise itself into something magnificent."
